Makalidurga Hill -- DIY Day Hike near Bangalore -- Medium Difficulty
When you start itching with the idea of going for a hike, seeing the nature around Bangalore, Makalidurga is one of the best options if you think yourself to be fairly fit.

If you are an average Raju who doesn't workout much but just a bit of walks here and there, Makalidurga is a great way to feel a bit tired. It won't hit your limits but it won't be a chill pill hike either.
The Starting Point
Makalidurga trek has a very well organised start point with a big parking bay. After parking the car, you need to cross a railway track, towards the mountain.

You will come across a coconut water guy here. I recommend visiting here while returning back. While leaving from home / on the way, have some bananas / dry fruits / 2 idlis to avoid staying hungry.

You start with a simple walkway

From there, you start climbing up. On the way up, it gets very rocky with grails / small stones all across. Be patient in this area and don't try to rush it (especially on your way down). If you're not used to walking on stones, take a stick along with you. A few jerky jump on stones can do more damage to your knees than most things in life.

The hike is mostly open and has limited shade so I suggest you to:
(a) Keep water bottle with you
(b) Wear light
(c) Put on a cap
(d) If too sunny, carry umbrella
As you get towards the top, you'll get some good breeze.
On return, keep calm, have a coconut water and return safe.
Remember:
* Carry your waste back to the base.
* Pick up trash if you can (carry an extra bag for trash).
* Remind the same to others whom you meet.
